2008

The Journey has ended!

Eray toured the nation in his Airstream motorhome and blogged daily, including photographs from his current location, between June 20 and July 19, 2008. Below is his original itinerary and route for that trip. on the ensuing pages are his blog entries.
Motorhome Renovation
One of the major stops on my planned adventure will be at the Airstream factory in Jackson Center, Ohio where I will have them reconstruct the twin bed setup to a walk-around island/queen-size bed arrangement. They have the know-how and proper tools to accomplish such a challenge on a model they manufactured in 1986.

Originally Planned Outbound Route

Airstream Summer 2008 ITINERARY

June 20: 11am, leave Oakland, CA for Fairfield, CA to meet up with 3 other Airstreams. Then driving in tandem 178 miles to Sparks, NV; stay overnight at the Sparks Marina RV Park.

June 21: Leave Sparks and head for Winnemucca, NV, 165 miles to meet up with the rest of the Airstream caravan (12 total), staying at the Model T RV Park & Casino.

June 22: Traveling 298 miles to Anderson Camp in Eden, Idaho, for overnight.

June 23: Traveling 257 miles to West Yellowstone, Montana; stay at Grizzly RV Park for 2 nights.

June 25: Short trip of 82 miles to Bozeman, Montana. I will be staying at the KOA while the group heads on to the college campus grounds for the national rally.  I will take a two-day R & R at the KOA.

June 26: Leave with Royce to Newaygo, Michigan. Total of 1605 miles. I plan on averaging 320 miles per day (8 hours/day).

June 30: Arrive at Stanwood, Michigan at River Ridge Resort, 6 miles from Newaygo, Michigan.

July 6: 8 a.m., leave Michigan headed to Airstream factory in Jackson Center, Ohio.

July 7 – 10: Reconstruction of Airstream’s bedroom. Accommodations to be determined.

July 11: Leave Ohio headed back to California.

July 18: Arrive home in Berkeley.

While in Michigan I plan on driving one of my brother’s autos to Dearborn, Michigan to meet my book editor, Susan, for a short visit. On July 6, I’ll leave Newaygo and head down to the Airstream factory in Jackson Center, Ohio where I’ll spend four days before heading home to California.

I plan on using roughly 470 to 500 gallons of fuel for the entire trip, at an average cost of $4.50/gallon. When I first planned this trip 1 year ago, gas was $3.38/gallon. Now it’s going to cost an extra $560 to take the same trip of a lifetime, our first HONEYCUTT family reunion. You know what? I have got to “JUST DO IT!”

Got some tips on places I should stop and see along the way? Send me an email! Better yet, give me a call on my cell phone and we’ll chat while I drive: (510) 919-0066.
